Functional Medicine
Functional Medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual. It is a science-based approach that empowers the patient and practitioner to work together to find the underlying causes of disease.
At Miami S+P, Dr. Mendez will discuss all of your current health concerns, perform a physical exam, and dive into the interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that influence your long-term health. Dr. Mendez will utilize the data collected to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses the source of your health symptoms.
By addressing root cause, rather than symptoms, Dr. Mendez is able to explore the complexity of disease. Often times we’ll find that one condition may have many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. It is our goal to help you uncover the origins of your health concerns and together develop a plan that puts you in the driver’s seat of your treatment.

Acupuncture
Miami Spine & Performance offers individualized acupuncture and wellness treatments. Treatment begins after a thorough dialogue discussing your lifestyle, condition, and symptoms.
Considering all aspects of your life helps the practitioner see your health in the context of you as a whole person, not just your physical symptoms. Treatment begins on the first visit and many people see immediate improvement.
How does it work?
While acupuncture has been scientifically proven as effective in treating conditions ranging from pain to seasonal allergies to insomnia, the mechanisms by which it works are still subject to debate. The simplest answer, from a modern Western medical perspective, is that tiny acupuncture needles (less than 1/10th the size of a sewing needle) inserted into the skin promote blood circulation to targeted areas. This in turn activates your body’s immune and nervous systems, reducing inflammation and releasing endorphins to alleviate pain.
Acupuncture is rooted in a history that spans more than 2,000 years and helps to correct imbalances in the body caused by external factors such as stress, toxins, and injury. Once restored to proper balance, the body can better heal itself.

Performance Care
Patients come to Miami Spine and Performance not just for treatment or temporary relief but for physicians that work with them to fix the underlying problems that resulted in their pain or dysfunction. Every condition is slightly different and each requires a very specific intervention to restore full, pain-free motion and a strong foundation to build fitness and strength off of.
We believe in active, patient centered care so most patients at Miami S+P will be given movements and/or stretches to be performed on their own to support their treatment in office. Our goal is to provide you with the tools to stay pain free and healthy on your own.
Patients at Miami S+P also benefit from a full body joint-by-joint assessment to prevent injury, eliminate discomfort and improve performance. As part of our performance clientele, we also offer nutrition and exercise programming to cater to your health, fitness and performance goals. Miami S+P physicians are not only trained in chiropractic medicine but are also certified strength and conditioning coaches with extensive continuing education in nutrition, fitness and sports training.
Athletes we love to work with: Tennis players, golfers, runners, bodybuilders, martial artists, weightlifters, soccer players, cyclists and all youth sports athletes.
